Sakata City Museum of Art was built in 1997. It is a large museum with a site of about 30,000 square meters and a building of about 3,000 square meters.
It is built on a hill overlooking the Mogami River, Mt. Chokai and the Sakata City. The view from here is very good.
The permanent exhibition includes works by Shigeru Morita, an oil painter who is the winner of the Order of Culture, works by Tsunero Kokuryo, an artist of Western painting who is a member of the Japan Arts Academy, works by Chozo Saito, an oil painter from Sakata, and works by Tsuyoshi Takahashi, a sculptor.

酒田市美術館は、1997年に建てられました。敷地は約3万平方メートル、施設面積は約3千平方メートルの広い美術館です。
最上川や鳥海山、酒田市内を見渡せる丘の上に建っています。美術館からは素晴らしい景観を楽しむことができます。
常設展示として、文化勲章受章者である油絵画家の森田茂の作品、日本芸術院会員の洋画家の國領經郎の作品、酒田市出身の油絵画家の斎藤長蔵の作品、彫刻家の高橋剛の作品などが展示されています。
